The short answer

FixitPlus is a builder-trained handyman service covering Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. We handle TV mounting, drywall repair, painting, light fixtures and electrical, plumbing fixtures, doors and carpentry, tile and flooring, furniture assembly, caulking, blinds, and deck and fence repairs — usually several jobs in a single flat-rate visit. Estimates are free and most jobs book within the same week.

Most homes in the GTA have a running list of jobs that nobody seems to want. The door that has not latched properly since the spring. The doorknob hole behind the bedroom door. A TV still sitting on a console because nobody trusted the wall. The bathroom caulking that has gone grey. Individually they are too small to interest a renovation contractor, and collectively they are the reason people search for a handyman in Toronto in the first place — one competent, insured person who will show up, work through the list, and leave the place clean.

FixitPlus Inc. is that crew, with one difference worth knowing about: we came out of custom-home building. The same people who frame houses, run second-storey additions and finish them to the last piece of trim also handle the handyman calls. That matters more than it sounds. When a builder patches your drywall, they notice the hairline crack running from the corner of the door frame and tell you whether it is cosmetic settling or something worth watching. When a builder mounts your television, they know what is behind a 1960s North York plaster wall versus a 2019 condo metal-stud wall, and they anchor accordingly.

We work across the whole region — Toronto and the inner suburbs, York Region up to Newmarket and King City, Peel and Halton out to Oakville and Burlington, and Durham east to Ajax, Pickering and Whitby. That is a wide footprint, but it is a genuine one: our crews are already working somewhere in the GTA every weekday, which is why same-week booking is usually realistic rather than a marketing line.

Pricing is flat-rate and quoted before we start. You will know the number for the whole visit — not an open-ended hourly meter that makes you anxious about asking for one more thing while we are there. And if something on your list crosses the line into permit territory or needs a licensed trade, we say so plainly instead of quietly doing it anyway. That honesty is the single most common thing clients mention when they call us back.

Handyman or contractor

Who should you actually call?

The most common question we get. Because FixitPlus is both a handyman service and a renovation builder, we can answer it honestly instead of talking you into whichever one we happen to sell.

WhoBest forTypical jobs
A handyman (us)Cosmetic, self-contained work and mixed to-do listsTV mounts, drywall patches, painting, faucet and fixture swaps, doors, tile repairs, caulking, blinds, furniture, deck and fence fixes
A renovation contractor (also us)Multi-trade projects that change how a space worksKitchens, bathrooms, basement finishing, whole-home renovations, additions and second storeys
A licensed specialistPermit work and anything the city or ESA must inspectNew circuits and panel work, re-piping, gas lines, main stacks, structural changes — we refer or bring in the licensed trade

If a job on your list crosses into permit territory, we say so in the quote rather than on the day. More on where the line sits: Handyman or contractor? How to know who to call.

Pricing

How handyman pricing works in the GTA

Handyman work in the GTA is quoted three different ways, and knowing which you are being offered is the difference between a predictable invoice and a surprise. Understanding the model matters more than chasing the lowest hourly number.

Flat rate per job or per visit

One quoted price for the work described, agreed before anyone starts. This is how we quote almost all handyman work. It rewards efficiency rather than penalising it, and it means adding "while you are here, could you also…" is a conversation about scope, not a running meter.

Hourly with a minimum

Common in the trade, usually with a one or two hour minimum plus travel. Fine for genuinely unknown work, but it puts the risk of a slow afternoon on you, and small jobs often end up paying for the minimum rather than the work.

Half-day and full-day blocks

The sensible option when you have a long list. You book the crew for a block of time and we work down the list in priority order, which is almost always cheaper per job than booking each item separately.

What moves the number

How many separate jobs are on the list (bundling several into one visit lowers the cost per job)
Whether materials are supplied by you or by us
Wall and building type — plaster, brick, concrete and metal-stud condo walls take longer than wood-stud drywall
Access and parking, particularly for downtown condos with elevator booking and loading-dock rules
Ceiling height and whether scaffolding or extra hands are needed
How much protection, masking and clean-up the space requires

How it works

From your list to a finished visit

Four steps, no surprises, and a real price before anyone picks up a tool.

01

Send us the list

Call, or send the form with a few lines about what needs doing — photos help enormously and mean the quote comes back tighter and faster. There is no charge and no obligation.

02

Get a flat-rate quote

We come back, usually within one business day, with a clear price for the whole visit and an honest note on anything that needs a licensed trade or a permit.

03

Pick a date

Most handyman work books inside the same week. You get a realistic arrival window rather than a vague "sometime Tuesday", and a heads-up if we are running behind.

04

We work the list and clean up

Floors and furniture get protected before tools come out. We work through the list in priority order, show you each finished item, and leave the space cleaner than we found it.

FAQ

Handyman questions, answered plainly

A handyman handles the small, self-contained repairs and installs around a home that do not need a permit or a licensed trade — mounting TVs and shelves, patching drywall, painting rooms and trim, swapping faucets and light fixtures, fixing sticking doors, repairing tile and grout, re-caulking bathrooms, hanging blinds, assembling furniture, and repairing decks and fences. The real advantage is that one visit can cover a dozen unrelated jobs instead of booking a different trade for each one.

Check four things before you book. First, that they carry liability insurance and WSIB coverage — ask outright. Second, that you get a written price before work starts, not after. Third, that they will tell you when a job needs a licensed electrician, plumber or a permit rather than doing it anyway. Fourth, that a real person is accountable for the job. FixitPlus covers all four, and estimates are free across the GTA.

It depends on how the work is quoted. Most GTA handymen charge hourly with a one or two hour minimum, or by the half day. We quote almost everything flat-rate per job or per visit, agreed before we start, so the price does not move while we work. The biggest lever on cost is bundling — six jobs handled in one visit costs far less than six separate call-outs. Send us the list and you will have a firm number, usually within a business day.

Yes, and it is the most economical way to use us. Send the full list, we will quote it as one visit, and we will work down it in the order that matters most to you. If something on the list turns out to need a specialist, we will flag it in the quote rather than discovering it on the day.

Toronto and the inner suburbs including North York, Etobicoke and Scarborough; York Region including Vaughan, Maple, Richmond Hill, Markham, Thornhill, Aurora, Newmarket and King City; Peel and Halton including Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington and Milton; and Durham including Ajax, Pickering, Whitby and Oshawa. If you are not sure whether you are in range, call — we are usually already working nearby.

Most handyman jobs book within the same week, and we give you a realistic arrival window when we confirm. Urgent items — a leaking fixture, a door that will not lock, a safety hazard — get prioritised, so say so when you call.

We handle the fixture side of both: light fixtures, dimmers, switches, pot lights and ceiling fans on the electrical side; faucets, toilets, vanities, garburators and shut-off valves on the plumbing side. Anything that requires an ESA permit, a new circuit, panel work, re-piping, a gas line or a main stack goes to a licensed electrician or plumber — we will bring one in or refer you. We never quietly do permit work.

Yes. FixitPlus Inc. carries full liability insurance and WSIB coverage on every job, and backs its work with a workmanship guarantee. We are happy to confirm coverage in writing before you book.
